For those who enjoy whisky, but who are also interested in historic sights, this is the tour for you! With visits to two distilleries, one castle and a working cooperage, this tour is the perfect introduction to Speyside!
Our Whisky & Castle Tour from Inverness has been carefully crafted to give whisky and history fans an interesting and insightful introduction to the Highland and Speyside whisky regions.
We depart Inverness at 8.30am for our 10 hour adventure, and will visit the following places on our tour;
1. Tomatin Distillery
Our first stop is at Tomatin Distillery, where whisky has been a way of life for hundreds of years. You will be taken on a distillery tour, which covers the entire production process, from raw ingredients through to spirit, and will give you a great foundation for the day ahead. After the tour you will enjoy tutored tastings of three specially selected drams, and will have time to browse their shop.
2. Ballindalloch Castle
This, "Pearl of the North" has been lived in as a family home by the Macpherson-Grant's since 1546, and is brimming full of magnificent family heirlooms, artwork and antique furniture. You will have approximately two hours here to: Tour the castle; spend time in its impressive gardens; visit the traditional coffee shop; and peruse the locally-produced goods in the gift shop.
3. Speyside Cooperage
At the Speyside Cooperage, the only working cooperage in Scotland, highly skilled coopers are still using traditional skills to restore and repair casks. Here we will be treated to a 4D audio-visual presentation, before heading to the viewing gallery to admire the coopers at work. Don't underestimate how impressive this place it - it truly is a highlight of the day!
4. Macallan Distillery
At the end of the day we will visit the hugely impressive Macallan Distillery Visitor Centre, where we will be treated to a triple tasting in their panoramic bar. There are some impressive displays of Macallan to admire and you can also get a view of some of the stills, as well as having a wander to Easter Elchies House, which famously features on every bottle of Macallan.
As the journey through Speyside is a picturesque one, we may make a stop on the way home at the 18th Century packhorse bridge in Carrbridge, before returning to Inverness at 6.45pm.
