The small village of Ardgartan is situated at the mouth of the Croe Water on the west shore of Loch Long.

More ambitious climbers might tackle one of the five local Munros; mountains standing at more than 3,000 feet. Favourite routes for experienced hill climbers include The Cobble (2891 feet) , which has a distinctive rocky summit, said to be shaped like an anvil, and The Brack.
