This village used to be the 'slate capital' of Scotland and the disused quarries can be still seen nearby. Today the village has an international reputation as an idyllic holiday destination which can be enjoyed at any time of year. There's a diverse range of activities available including mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, golf and skiing as well as miles of mountain and forest tracks.
The village is split into two - North Ballachulish and South Ballachulish - and is situated on either side of Loch Leven, where it flows into Loch Linnhe.
