Mists, which frequently catch in the trees and fill the glen, create a mysterious, secretive world at Cademuir. So much so that two downed German pilots, who took refuge here during World War II, were only discovered when smoke from their fire gave them away.
When you're out in the forest, look out for a wide variety of birds including siskins, warblers, crossbills and great spotted woodpeckers. You might see buzzards circling overhead. And if you're very lucky, you might glimpse a tawny owl, hunting through the trees at dusk.
Visitors can walk, mountain bike and horse ride at Cademuir Forest and there are two main trails here, the Tantah's Trail, and the Pilot's Trail.
