Scalloway has a good range of facilities that include a swimming pool, shops, restaurants and pubs. Scalloway Museum features a moving display on the war-time exploits of Norway’s ‘Shetland Bus’ heroes who made the village their base. The museum also has exhibits on the local fishing heritage.

Sheltering Scalloway from Atlantic gales are the rugged islands of Trondra and Burra, while to the north of Scalloway is the Tingwall Valley with its rich meadows and lochs. There is also a 9-hole golf course at Asta.

West of Tingwall is the long inlet of Whiteness Voe while Weisdale is a good place to look for wading birds and also has an art gallery that features local and touring exhibitions.
