Road Directions

Dounby is connected by good road networks and bus service and lies close to the famous pre-historic village of Skara Brae. This Neolithic village is the best-known of Orkney's pre-historic monuments. The extensive remains of a Neolithic fishing and farming village, Skara Brae was discovered in 1850 when a storm removed much of the dunes that covered it. The village is very well preserved, its houses huddled together and connected by passageways. There is a visitor centre (which also has a cafe), with exhibition at the site, which lies beside a cracking beach at Bay of Skaill.

Pay a visit to The Loons and The Loch of Banks Nature Reserve. This is an ideal day out for the family and it will give you a chance to see some of Orkney’s wetland species close up. Dounby is also home to the Click Mill, the last surviving horizontal mill in Orkney.
