The 14th century Dundonald Castle stands on a hill west of the village, and the visitor centre and museum boasts a café, shop and exhibition which tells the story of the castle. There are other opportunities to eat out in the village and buy provisions.
Dundonald Highland Games takes place beside the castle and captures the traditional Scottish heritage of Ayrshire. The games feature pipe bands, Highland dancing, children’s rides and stalls.
The village also has a smuggling history and the Smugglers Trail can be taken from Dundonald to Loans in Troon.
