Glentrool Visitor Centre is the gateway to the Galloway hills, where you can pick up maps and information on the hill ranges. The Merrick, South Scotland's highest mountain at nearly 2,800ft can be climbed from Bruce's Stone. There is also a small shop and café.
Glentrool is also a recognised UNESCO Biosphere community. Biosphere Communities are places where local residents and businesses have committed to being Proud Supporters of the Biosphere and to;

On the A714, take the turning at Bargrennan (approx 8 miles north of Newton Stewart) signed Galloway Forest Park & follow signs to Glentrool Visitor Centre
