The parish of Holm is six miles south of Kirkwall on Mainland Orkney, with splendid views over St Mary's Bay.
The picturesque little village of St Mary's is the main settlement in the area. The village has an esplanade facing south which developed during the herring fishing days. The settlement is located next to the First Churchill Barrier - a causeway linking Mainland Orkney to the nearby island of Lamb Holm. St Mary's is the venue for a variety of water based sports and has an annual regatta in July. The village has a range of self-catering chalets, overnight lodges and B&Bs available.
