Kirkoswald is an attractive village in South Ayrshire, located 4 miles south west of Maybole on the A77. .
This conservation village started out at as home to an ancient church (Kirkoswald Old Church) which was built by monks and dates back to 1244. The impressive ruins are certainly worth visiting.
Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Bard, spent a summer here and many of the real people who inspired the characters in his classic poem Tam o’Shanter are buried in the kirkyard. Visit Souter Johnny’s Cottage, home of the cobbler made famous inin the poem.
Kirkoswald has a village store, a hotel and church.
