The mouth of the Great Glen and island of Mull are also nearby making the area a good base for exploring the surrounding countryside. The unspoilt environment is abundant with wildlife, birds, butterflies and fauna particularly, but pine martens and roe deer are regular visitors to Strontian as well.
The village is surrounded by magnificent ancient woods with giant redwoods and the ground carpeted with wild flowers and mosses. Visitors can walk along the meandering paths leading up to the open moor and dropping down to the river valley or take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful shoreline where otters and sea eagles can be easily spotted.
