Taynuilt’s name comes from the Gaelic ‘Tigh-an-Uilt’, meaning ‘house of the stream’ which, before the railway came in 1879, used to be the resting place for travellers.
Today visitors can relax in the Taynuilt Hotel, which serves a variety of dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. A selection of wine, malt whisky and other beverages is available to choose from to compliment your meal. Quality food and drink can also be enjoyed at the Robin’s Nest Tearoom, located on the village’s Main Street.
One of Taynuilt’s most popular attractions is the Bonawe Iron Furnace, the most complete charcoal fuelled ironworks in Britain. The 9-hole Taynuilt Golf Club is also popular, boasting beautiful views of nd Loch Etive.
