Thornielee wood is part of Tweed Valley Forest Park and can be found around 3 miles east of Walkerburn..

Thornielee is a small wood providing a variety of walks ranging from gentle strolls to more strenuous climbs. The wood is situated close to the main A72 and this combined with good parking facilities and wonderful views make it a popular stop off for people breaking their car journey. Three popular waymarked walks include Meadow Trails, Meg's Trail, and Cairn's Trail.

It's an important location for wildlife and the grassy slopes below the car park are a hotspot for butterflies such as the Small Copper and the Northern Brown Argus. To find out more about the butterflies here, enjoy a walk along the Meadow trails where you'll find some interpretation information about these fascinating insects and their life cycle.

While you're here, find out more about Muckle Mouth Meg! Legend has it that Meg - Lady Agnes Murray - had problems attracting men due to her big mouth. An imprisoned cattle rustler was given the option of hanging or marrying her. He made his final decision to marry her on his way to the gallows!
