The pretty conservation village of West Linton lies in the foothills of the Pentland Hills, 15 miles south west of Edinburgh.

The Burgh of West Linton is steeped in history. It is one of the oldest market settlements in Scotland and during the 17th century it was associated with silver and lead mining as well as stone carving. Visitors will find an interesting history trail round the village with which to enjoy and sight see the village. 

There is considerable evidence of pre-historic occupation in the area including one of the best preserved Bronze Age cairns in the country. In 1994 a Bronze Age cemetery was excavated at the Westerwater reservoir.

Today the village is an ideal base for those who enjoy outdoor activities such as hill walking, pony trekking, and golf in spectacular surrounding. One of the highlight of the village calendar is the Whipman. This traditional festival was founded in 1803 and is associated with the old horseman’s society.
