There are also beautiful scenic and challenging golf courses on your doorstep - including the championship links course at Southerness or the nearby Colvend golf course within walking distance and fantastic fishing - choose from sea fishing or course fishing fly or line on one of the many inland lochs or visit one of the areas activity centres at Galloway Activity Centre for exhilarating water sports or Laggan Outdoor that boasts the longest zip wire spanning a whopping 820 metres. A 15 minute walk from your chalet will take you to the Bainloch deer park where you have to ring in advance for a tour - you won't be disappointed. The spectacular dark skies also offer a fantastic opportunity to observe the night sky through binoculars, telescope or just look up and admire with your eyes, - that is if you can take them away from the badgers who come out at night.
Nearby, the Dalbeattie forest & Mabie are a great place to explore and are 7stanes biking centres. Slightly further a field, Galloway Forest Park is 300 square miles of beautiful green forest, heather-clad hills, a wealth of wildlife and two more of the 7stanes mountain biking centres, Glentrool (home of Bruce`s Stone monument 1307) and Kirroughtree (MBR Trail of the year 2010). If that's not enough the town of Dumfries is only 30 minutes away steeped in history about Robert Burns and populated with many restaurants, pubs and attractions such as the Camera Obscura, - or visit one of the many historic sites which adorn the area such as Sweetheart Abbey or Drumlanrig Castle.
