The birds that can be seen from the cottage include Oystercatchers, lapwings, skylarks, short eared owls & Hen harriers. Geese are prolific in the autumn. Located approx. 11 miles east of Kirkwall, Millhill is close to the Brough of Deerness, the Covenanter's Memorial, Gloup and the Mull Head. Take day trips to the west mainland and South Ronaldsay ( only 1/2 an hour away max. to see the amazing archaeological finds e.g at the Ness of Brodgar.
