First and foremost, this is a together space, combining warmth and intimacy with attention to the finer things in life. An ideal luxury retreat for family gatherings, special celebrations and sporting lets, set amidst the rich rolling countryside of North Berwickshire.
Its rich heritage, fine architectural detailing and stunning interior are defining features and a fitting tribute to the architectural and design flair shown here.
Despite its grand proportions, Old Purves Hall has an easy flow with both sociable and private spaces designed to meet all the needs of a larger party. Access is directly into a new cedar clad extension, its clean, modern lines a striking juxtaposition to the original stonework of the 1650’s old towerhouse.
Inside there’s a large boot room for outdoor gear, while underfloor heating adds a warming touch, also likely to be much loved by any dogs in the party! A row of tiny cream jugs excavated from the site is a lovely nod to one of the property’s lives as a former toffee factory.
Original oak doors salvaged from the old Edinburgh Jail open into the inner reception hall with exposed stonework adding to the heritage of the space. This leads into an impressive drawing room with two distinct spaces for relaxation or entertaining.
The original oak beams and magnificent restored inglenook fireplace have immediate impact, while a separate space benefits from deep seating and a roaring open fire. Classic styling and carefully selected fabrics and furnishings add real warmth and colour.
The kitchen, with original fireplace recess, will perfectly suit both keen cooks and professional caterers alike, while the open plan dining area is a superb entertaining space for atmospheric dinner parties, framed by a fantastic abstract painting by Scottish landscape artist Oona Campbell.
The integrity of the building continues to shine through in the six beautifully appointed bedrooms and four bathrooms, accessed by a show-stopping staircase to the first and second floor. Preserved historical features such as the original timber panelled walls and shuttered windows sit comfortably with an elegant heritage colour palette, punctuated with a lively dash of colour.
The addition of a further sitting room on the second floor completes the picture with a wood burning stove and two sumptuous sheepskin beanbags for the ultimate restful indulgence.
Whether your interests lie in the great outdoors or simply rest and relaxation, Old Purves Hall is a perfect spot to escape to the peace of the country and enjoy a more sedate pace away from the hustle and bustle. The property sits in large attractive grounds bounded by mature woodland and the wider area provides excellent opportunities for shooting, fishing, walking and exploring the great outdoors.
