Abernethy National Nature Reserve is home to some of Scotland's most spectacular wildlife. The largest surviving remnant of natural Highland pinewood, Abernethy Forest provides a vital refuge for some of the most charismatic mammals and birds of Scotland. Whether you want to watch ospreys or simply wander through the pinewoods, there is a lot to choose from in this magnificent reserve.

Road Directions

From Aviemore, take the B9150/A95 and follow the RSPB 'Ospreys' Road Signs. The main car park is at the RSPB Osprey Centre.

Public Transport Directions

The two main access points to this large Reserve are Loch Garten and Nethybridge. Loch Garten is two and a half miles from Boat of Garten and four miles from Nethybridge, and is linked to both villages by minor roads and the Speyside Way. Bus service 34 runs from Aviemore to both villages, and in summer, the Strathspey Steam Railway stops at Boat of Garten and Broomhill, one mile north of Nethybridge.
