Cared for by the National Trust for Scotland. An oasis of soft hues, fresh textures and striking foliage, Arduaine is the place to come for a deep breath of calm. The garden lies on a rocky promontory and enjoys the warming benefits of the North Atlantic Drift, meaning you can admire a wider range of plants here than is usual in this part of the world.
PLEASE NOTE: Arduaine Garden will remain closed in 2022 due to storm damage. For up-to-date information, see here.
The garden features a renowned collection of rhododendrons as well as colourful azaleas and magnolias. Visitors can also enjoy bright Blue Tibetan poppies, Chatham Island forget-me-nots and giant Himalayan lilies, as well as palms and tree ferns, which add to the sense of the exotic.
The garden is adjacent to the grounds of the Loch Melfort Hotel, formerly Arduaine House, which dates from 1896. It is an ideal base from which to explore this corner of Argyll.
Arduaine is also a haven for wildlife, so look out for kestrels, badgers, seals and porpoises out to sea. Younger visitors will enjoy the Highland cattle, hens and ducks in the neighbouring hotel grounds, as well as the play park and walk to the sandy beach. There is a children’s guide available for the garden.
