Arniston House is a magnificent William Adam, Palladian style mansion house set in acres of beautiful parkland just 11 miles from Edinburgh. It has been home to the Dundas family for over 400 years. You are most welcome to come and visit us, have a tour, see the beautiful grounds and perhaps consult with our Events Coordinator about a wedding or other event. We invite you to come and visit us.

Guided tours are regularly taken by the currnet family members, Althea Dundas-Bekker and her daughter Henrietta beginning in the magnificent Hall with its elaborate stucco work by Joseph Enzer. A brief background history will enable you to experience the house as it was and now is namely a grand Georgian mansion house but also remaining a family home.

The House

Other principle rooms on the tour include John Adam’s Dining Room and Drawing Room which are now restored having been gutted due to dry rot in the 1950s. The oldest room in the house is the atmospheric Oak Room where hangs portraits of past generations of the family. The original William Adam Library is now home to an extensive collection of ceramics including Meissen and Sevres sets and a Bealby glass. The Portrait Room at the top of the house has an impressive collection of paintings by Sir Henry Raeburn and Romney.

The Grounds

Visitors are encouraged to walk in the tranquil grounds. The policies make for a lovely setting among ancient Beech, Lime and Oak Trees. The Sunken Garden which is a pleasant walk across the policies gives the chance to admire the south façade of the house in all its glory. To the North, Arniston looks over to Arthur’s Seat and Edinburgh or Auld Reekie in the distance.

Arniston House is very pleased to discuss with you your event needs be it a wedding, corporate event or private function. The Orangery and grounds are perfectly situated to accomodate a great many types and styles of events.
