Leave Catrine Bottom of Sorn Street head to Sorn cut off at the crossroads heading to Sornhill. Turn left at Sornhill follow the road to the T junction turn right at the next T junction turn right head to Tarbolton. Once in Tarbolton follow the signs for Mauchline on the A road.
Landmarks - Robert Burns was initiated into masonic Lodge St David Tarbolton on 4 July 1781. Mossgiel and Mauchline became landmarks for those visiting Burns' haunts in the latter part of the 19th Century. East Ayrshire region houses 34 villages with Kilmarnock being the largest. Most villages are former coal mining villages. Highlights in the area include Loch Doon that is now dammed for the Galloway Hydro-Electric power station. There is a heritage museum on the railways, a historic house called Stair House, Sorn Castle and Dean Castle.
