Home Cook School offers a unique, intimate and fun experience for anyone who would like to improve their cooking skills, whilst learning how to cook some delicious Scottish dishes using local, seasonal produce. Some dishes on offer include 'Cullen Skink' (smoked fish soup), Chicken Balmoral (stuffed with haggis) and 'Raspberry Cranachan' a traditional Scottish dessert of sweetened cream, oats and whiskey.
The Home Cook School Tutor Lindsay, delivers classes one-to-one and to small groups at her kitchen in Maybole, South Ayrshire or in the comfort of the client's kitchen (this includes holiday lets with kitchen facilities). Home Cook School offers a variety of course options and lessons can be tailor-made to suit individual tastes, interests and requirements. Home Cook School aims to develop your cooking skills and knowledge regardless of whether you are an absolute beginner or a keen home cook.
Through initial discussions prior to the lesson, Lindsay will help customers plan a menu. She provides plenty of sample menu ideas!
Customers who choose the full day Scottish themed lesson will be taken to a local Ayshire farm shop to choose some ingredients at the beginning of the day. This will be especially interesting for those keen to sample typically Scottish produce.
All customers will be given recipe cards for all the dishes they make so they can practice at home. They can tuck into their culinary creations after the lesson (or during for that matter!)
There are three lesson options if you want an 'all inclusive' lesson at the Home Cook School kitchen, Maybole, Ayrshire, including:
This lesson option is for a minimum booking of two people. Depending on the size of your party, you may be joined by other learners -this can be a lot of fun! This option normally takes place at the Home Cook School kitchen in Maybole but contact us if you would like it in another venue.
2 hour lesson - You will cook at least 3 dishes and eat as you go. Price £60 pp. (This includes all ingredients, tea or coffee and shortbread.)
3 hour lesson - You will cook at least 4 dishes during the session and stop to enjoy nibbles and a compliemtary glass of wine. Price £80 pp. (This includes all ingredients, tea or coffee and shortbread.)
6 hour full day lesson - You will cook around 6 dishes and have the meal during the lesson. You may also visit a local Ayrshire farm shop to select some of the ingredients for your lesson - dependant on the menu you choose. Price £135 pp. (This includes all ingredients, tea or coffee, shortbread and complimentary 1/2 bottle of wine per person.)
There are three lesson options if you want a private lesson in your own kitchen:
This could be a one-to-one session for just you or for a small group of up to four people of your choosing! A private lesson is the same price regardless of whether it is for one person or four people. Home Cook School will give you a shopping list and you will provide the ingredients based on how many will be taking part in the class. Private lessons normally take place in your kitchen (this includes holiday lets).
- 2 hour lesson (where you can cook at least 3 dishes and can enjoy the meal after your lesson). Price £80
- 3 hour lesson (you will cook at least 4 dishes, you will stop and enjoy nibbles during the session). Price £110
- 6 hour full day lesson (you will cook around 6 dishes and have the meal during the lesson). Depending on the menu you choose, you may also visit a local Ayrshire farm shop to choose some of the ingredients that will go into your delicious meal. Price £210
