In the museum, learn about the land, people and ways of working that have shaped Scotland's rural history, and discover Scotland's largest collection of tractors, combine harvesters and other farming machinery.
Just a short walk from the museum is our working farm, home to Ayrshire, Aberdeen Angus and Highland cattle, Tamworth pigs, sheep, hens and Clydesdale horses. With each season there is something new to see, from newborn animals to harvesting.
Our new family trail is full of top tips, object highlights and activities to help you make the most of your visit. Join Clyde the horse on a journey around the museum before taking on our super spotter challenge as you explore the great outdoors.
While our Farm Explorer tractor-trailer isn’t running, we’ve created one-way routes so you can get from the museum to the farm and back safely. When visiting the farm please do not pet or feed the animals, including our farm cats. Some interactive displays and high-touch areas are also temporarily closed for your safety, including the Garden Detectives gallery in the museum building and the farmhouse at the farm.
Shielings Café is open for home baking, hot and cold dishes, children's meals and freshly brewed teas and coffees. Or bring your own picnic to eat in our outdoor picnic area. Our shop is also open for museum visitors to enjoy. Please note we are accepting card payments only.
