As the main seaport of the islands, it offers a wide variety of facilities to accommodate a number of industries including tourism, fishing, marine leisure and commercial shipping.
As the primary ferry port for the Outer Hebrides, over 95 percent of all visitors to the Isle of Lewis travel through Stornoway harbour and it is a regular port-of-call for visiting cruise ships.

Stornoway is situated 30 miles off the North West coast of Scotland. It is the main seaport of the Hebridean Island chain and provides a vital link to mainland Britain.
This lively bustling town has everything you would expect of a modern Commercial Port as well as including one of the leading slipway facilities on the West Coast and islands. As the largest settlement on the Outer Hebrides, Stornoway is the central hub of the islands, providing daily links to the mainland by ferry or plane.
The airport is situated just 4km from the Port, linking the island by air with Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh. There is regular public transport in the form of a bus service and taxi ranks throughout Stornoway.
A marina with a total of 70 berths for vessels up to a maximum length of 24 metres is situated at the north end of the Inner Harbour.
The 70 berths are available all year round. Berths can be allocated to visiting vessels although there is a great demand for these berths during the summer months. In order to ascertain berth availability prior to arrival you should contact the Harbour Office during working hours, or the Duty Watchkeeper after hours and at weekends. In any event, visiting boats should give one hour’s notice to the Harbour Watchroom on Channel 12 VHF. With brand new facilities for 2014 there is fresh water readily available on the pontoons, along with shore power and Wi-Fi.
The idyllic harbour town provides ample opportunity to explore the culture and tradition of Lewis that makes it so unique today. The Port of Stornoway is the gateway to the beautiful Outer Hebrides and is well equipped to accommodate cruise ships and passengers. The primary cruise liner facility is at Number 3 Pier, capable of taking vessels up to 156 metres length with a maximum draft of 6.5 metres. Reception facilities are readily available in the main Ferry Terminal adjacent to this berth. Smaller vessels may be accommodated at the Number 1 Pier. A cruise liner tender landing pontoon is available by the Ferry Terminal at Number 3 pier. Upon disembarking their vessel, passengers are greeted by the Stornoway Cruise Ambassadors, a voluntary group who provide information and advice on the island’s tourist attractions, and distribute maps of the town centre to all passengers.
