Come and join us in Crochail woods for a day, a weekend or a week and sample one of our workshops, retreats or holidays. Traditional crafts, yoga, walking, outdoor cookery and much more.
At Wild Rose Escapes we run craft courses and holidays, relaxation retreats and prehistoric cookery weekends. This unusual mix has come about as it combines our skills and interests; We live in 100 acres of managed woodland, just on the edge of glen Affric, with Loch Ness on our door step, a beautiful spot with stunning views across Strathglass.
Guests can join us for a day, two days or a week long course. Our week long craft and relaxation retreats are residential and guests stay in a local Highland house. We provide all the meals, using locally sourced and home grown ingredients, wherever we can.
Our Relaxation Retreats are based at Polmaily steading and start with morning yoga followed by lovely walks to some of the many beautiful landscapes in this area. Our retreats also include a craft day, relaxation evenings, music, healthy home-cooking and beautiful accommodation at Polmaily steading, which has all the character of an old building but the luxuries of a new; with underfloor heating, freestanding baths and an outdoor balcony. The Highlands of Scotland is the perfect place to unwind, revitalize and relax!
Craft Holidays, Courses & Workshops
Our Fleece to Felt weeks are getting so popular as more and more people become interested in traditional crafts. Our weeks are quite unusual and unique as we teach our guests the whole process from Fleece to Felt; starting with a shearing demonstration, followed by sorting and washing fleece, foraging for dye plants, making natural dyes, dyeing our wool and then producing a final felted piece. The week also gives our guests time to visit some of the areas inspiring landscapes, crofts and interesting crafts people. The Scottish Highlands has such a rich history of traditional craft and its wild landscpaes play such an inspirational role.
We also run one and two day craft workshops in both natural dyeing and felting using our own fleece. We have a small flock of Shetland sheep and most of the other fleece we use in our workshops is from other local flocks
Prehistoric Cookery Courses
Lastly, we run Prehistoric cookery weekends, a short one or two day course teaching guests traditional cooking methods. Over a weekend course guests build a pit oven from earth and stone, bake their feast inside, light fires, try pot boiling, wild food foraging, hot stone cookery, bread baking and butter making. In the evening enjoying their well earned supper in our Iron age style round house.
The common thread which runs through all our courses, holidays and workshops is the outdoors. We do as much as we can outside: yoga, walking, cookery or craft...there is nothing as good!
