A beautiful six days walking tour through the Uists, exploring 9 islands and experiencing incredible seascapes, moorlands, wildlife and local communities


Our new adventure will take you off the beaten track and beyond where most people ever wander. We will lead you through stunning moorlands, along incredible coastlines and through the small communities that make these islands so precious.

Highlights: Landscape, archaeology, wildlife, coastlines, nature, rural villages, remote islands

Accommodation: Small guesthouses or B&B,


Day 1 – Arrival Day – Benbecula /North Uist

Fly from Glasgow to Benbecula on Loganair and met by your local guide. After check-in at our accommodation, we then head out for a hike into the moorlands and take you to ancient standing stones, through a small forest and finally to an old burial chamber dating back to almost five thousand years before heading back to our evening's accommodation.

Day 2 – The Highest Hill & Wild Atlantic – North Uist

The day begins with a short drive to the eastern section of the island and through some dramatic scenery as we head to the moorlands for a beautiful hike and gentle climb to our highest hill Eaval standing at just over one thousand feet.

We will enjoy a well-earned picnic lunch here while we take in the fabulous views from this elevation. After time to yourselves, we then make our way back down the hill and back to our vehicle. We then take a short drive to a glorious beach and take a gentle stroll next to the Atlantic, taking in the views and learning about the history and archaeology of this particular area.

Day 3 – The World of an Island – North Uist

Today's walk takes us across the incredible Vallay Strand to the deserted island of Vallay and the ancient ruins of Erskine Beveridge one of the owners of the island in the early part of the 20th century. We walk across two miles of tidal strand before circumnavigating the island and discovering ancient Neolithic settlements, glorious beaches and incredible wildlife.

We will have our picnic lunch in some sheltered cove or overlooking a fantastic beach before making our way back across the strand.

Our afternoon walk takes us once more onto the coastlines and through one of these island's nature reserves and out to the glorious west side. Here we learn about the value of crofting and the incredible biodiversity of these islands before making our way back to our accommodation and a free evening to dine at your leisure.

Day 4The Trail of Bonnie Prince Charlie

Today we leave North Uist and head up south. On the way, we take a small detour and take a walk out onto the east coast of Benbecula and up its highest hill at just over four hundred feet, Ruabhal. We then descend the hill and head out to the last point on these islands where Bonnie Prince Charlie escaped after the failed Jacobite uprising in 1745/46 with the help of Flora MacDonald.

Day 5 – The old postal route & Lighthouse

We head out into the dramatic wilderness landscape of South Uist for our walk to a remote lighthouse built-in 1857. Our trek follows the old postal route and beyond. This is an excellent walk with reasonable opportunity to see golden eagles, red deer and many more birds of prey. The walk took us into the remoteness of ancient South Uist and was till the early twentieth century people still lived in remote villages behind the hills.

The afternoon walk takes us through the sleepy village of Howmore and past thatch houses and out onto the coastline for a peaceful Machair walk before returning to our accommodation and a chance to relax and dinner on own.

Day 6 – Eriskay & Bonnie Prince Charlie

Our final adventure leads us to the southernmost point of the Uist's and the beautiful little island of Eriskay. We spend our day climbing its highest hill, visiting abandoned villages and walking Charlie's beach where Bonnie Prince Charlie first landed in 1745.

Included local lunch

Our final trek will take us a short walk out onto the South Uist eastern coastline to get close to wildlife and wander through a beautiful forested area with stunning views. We arrive back at the hotel late afternoon and prepare for our farewell dinner of local produce.
