Kenmore Hill is a great viewpoint, with Ben Lawers, Schiehallion and Strath Tay all prominent. This super walk also takes in the Queen's Drive, and ancient stone circle and the impressive Falls of Acharn.
Kenmore Hill (in Gaelic, Creag an Fhudair) is a lovely hill with a community woodland. We start the walk up the hill from Kenmore village and follow a minor road and then good paths to the summit. As we climb, the views open up and we have a marvellous vista of Ben Lawers, Schiehallion, the Glen Lyon hills and Loch Tay.
We then follow a path down to the Queen's Drive - a good track which is also part of the Rob Roy Way. The track offers good views across Loch Tay to Ben Lawers. We visit an ancient stone circle and then descend to the impressive Falls of Acharn and the village of Acharn nestled on the shore of Loch Tay. Our route back to Kenmore is along the minor road which runs on the south side of Loch Tay. On the way, we pass the fantastic Scottish Crannog Centre.
The walk is 13km long with an ascent of 530m, and should take about 6 hours. The walk starts at 10am at the beach car park in Kenmore. We aim to finish by about 4pm.
You will need to bring with you a pair of good trekking shoes or boots, waterproofs, a small rucksack, some warm spare clothing, hand sanitiser, a face mask and something to eat and drink. Children over the age of 12 are welcome on this walk but they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Sorry, but no dogs.
