Blackwater Cottage is 5 miles north of St Johns Town of Dalry and about 25 miles northwest of Castle Douglas in SW Scotland. It has a superb location amongst the hills and lochs of Galloway, and is most comfortable and welcoming. Situated above Loch Carsfad on a quiet back road from New Galloway (great golf-course said to have the best views in Scotland) to the coast at Ayr (45 minutes drive), it is surrounded by stunning hill and forest countryside – marvellous for walking, picnics, etc – with the waterfalls of the shallow River Blackwater tumbling down at its rear through rocky pools into the loch.
The Southern Upland Way runs to the east of the cottage and this detached south-facing cosy 200-year-old stone cottage stands on its own in an enclosed pretty garden (furniture and barbecue). Loch Ken and The Galloway Forest Park offer watersports, fishing, birdwatching, mountain-biking, many interesting places and a fascinating coastline to explore.
