Mil Bothy is a comfortable & peaceful getaway for two, on the beautiful coastline of the Bays of Harris. You can watch wildlife water's edge activity from the cottage, through the windows or from the patio.
The cottage is situated overlooking Finsbay with the sea lapping against the surrounding rocks below, with vistas across the Minch to Skye. On a clear day you will see the spectacular Cuillin Mountain Range or as far as the South Uist hills. There is rarely a dull moment, from flat blue calm to nature showing off its most powerful might.
We are remote. Mil Bothy, built in 2014, has WHEELCHAIR access and is 100 yards beyond our house, which is 400 yards from the Quidinish road. Sit on the patio by the south side of the cottage and you forget the world you have left behind. The cottage is very cosy, the main living room and kitchen is spacious and open plan, with nothing beyond but sea and landscape.
Those who fancy catching a fish for their supper are welcome to bring their fishing rod and venture on to the rocks to try their luck. We can show you the favoured spots, one is below the cottage. Previous visitors have caught mackerel, pollock and small sea trout.
The east Bays side of Harris is sometimes described as the rugged and remote side of the island - which is a blessing in disguise - giving a better chance of watching undisturbed wildlife from the bungalow windows and enjoying peace in this simple wilderness. With luck there may be a seal or otter in the bay, diving ducks and terns fishing, Oystercatchers pecking over the seaweed and the thrill of Gannets diving for mackerel or herring... Overhead you may well see a Golden or Sea Eagle gliding over mobbed by Crows, Seagulls or a Buzzard.
