Inside, the pretty interior is presented in contemporary cottage style with interesting antique items and original artworks alongside Farrow and Ball paint colours, designer linen fabrics and a contemporary kitchen and bathroom. There’s a log fire (logs are provided), Wi-Fi, TV with Freeview, DVD player and selection of DVDs and an impressive selection of games and interesting books for relaxing in the cooler months. The kitchen is compact but well equipped and includes ample cookware and cookery books for keen cooks! The boiler room and large shed are useful for the storage of outdoor kit.
Guests have use of the superb original wood-panelled billiard room in the owner’s house complete with full size billiard table. This is shared with another holiday cottage in the grounds on a first come, first served basis.
The two individually-styled bedrooms are beautifully presented with muted paint colours, superb bespoke linen curtains and fabulous cashmere and wool throws. To ensure a restful night’s sleep, good quality beds with pocket sprung memory foam mattresses are made up with high quality Egyptian cotton bed linen, feather and duck down duvets and pillows and toiletries are provided.
The Gate House sits in a pretty, fully-enclosed garden overlooking paddocks. Guests are welcome to explore the wider grounds which run down to the river and a network of excellent walks. A particular highlight is the short walk to Scotland over the superb Union Bridge, the first of its type in the UK and the oldest of its type still in use, which links England and Scotland. From here one can explore the grounds of Paxton House or walk downstream all the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Upstream there’s a fabulous walk to the pretty village of Norham with some superb views along the way.

The Gate House has a pretty, fully enclosed garden to the rear with outside seating area. Guests are welcome to explore the wider grounds which run down to the river and a network of excellent walks.
A large secure shed adjacent to the cottage is ideal for the storage of outdoor kit.
The original wood-panelled billiard room complete with full size billiard table in the main house is available for guest’s use. Please note this wing of the house is undergoing renovation and the room is not presented to the same standard as the rest of the accommodation. The billiard room is shared with the guests at The Steward's House on a first come, first served basis.

There is private parking for two / three cars adjacent to the cottage.

DOGS
Two well-behaved dogs are welcome at the The Gate House. Owners are requested to dry their dogs before allowing them into the sitting room. Dogs are not allowed in the bedrooms.

The beds are made up with high quality Egyptian cotton bed linen, feather and duck down duvets and pillows. A hairdryer is provided in both bedrooms. Guest toiletries are provided along with luxurious bath sheets and hand towels.

FISHING ON SITE
Trout fishing is included on the stretch of river below the main house. Norham Angling Association permits can be purchased for more extensive trout fishing.
The house sits above the Horncliffe beat on the English side and Tweedhill on the Scottish side but is within easy driving distance of a number of prime bottom and lower Tweed beats.
GUEST PRIVACY
The Gate House is a standalone property which sits at the end of the drive to the main house.
