Bakka is a remote, isolated croft on the west coast of mainland Shetland. The sheep enjoy mixed coastal grazing. I am careful to undergraze the land to allow the flora and fauna to flourish. A few rare flowers grow at Bakka, in particular the lovely field gentian, and the land is home to many different amber-listed waders. A visit to Bakka would allow you to look for flowers and enjoy the bird song. I also 'work' the peats and my banks are on top of the hill behind Bakka. A short walk to the top of the neighbouring cliffs would yield spectacular views.

I would love to see you here at Bakka if you are visiting Shetland, whatever the weather.

However, any visit to see BAKKA's textile collection is strictly by appointment. Please email mary@bakkaknitwear.com to arrange.

You can make arrangements to visit the land, when I will provide parking.

Depending on the time of year, you might see some uncommon wildflowers blooming and hear and see a good variety of RSPB red and amber listed birds.

Also, there are excellent coastal walks in both directions, with spectacular scenery, including the popular walk to Deep Dale.

Directions

Access is by way of the track to the beach at Dale Voe.

Continue past the beach and up the hill onto the croft.

There is ample parking is at the side of the general purpose shed. Parking only for arranged visits

The number 9 bus comes to Walls from Lerwick, and then there are 6 miles to walk to reach Bakka.
