A scenic small group tour from Glasgow that features panoramic locations from Harry Potter movies, Highlander, Local Hero and James Bond epic Skyfall.

Leaving from Glasgow, we travel the full length of Loch Lomond, taking in the views of its ‘bonnie banks’ and Ben Lomond from your luxury mini coach. We stop for a short break before journeying into one of Europe’s last remaining wildernesses, desolate Rannoch Moor. This bleak but beautiful place is filled with heather, rocky outcrops, birds and lochans (small lochs). We pass Bridge of Orchy, so named for its bridge built in 1751 as part of a major, military road-building operation, and Loch Tulla.

As we traverse the moor you’ll spot rucsac-laden walkers on the famous trekking route the West Highland Way. Four Munros (Scottish mountains over 3000 feet high) known as the Black Mount make way for the dramatic peaks of Glencoe. Ahead, your driver-guide will point out Buachaille Etive Mor, an intimidating climb but a photographer’s favourite.

You may recognise Glencoe as a filming location from Harry Potter and James Bond epic Skyfall. As we stop for photos ask your driver-guide about the 1692 Glencoe massacre which still seems to leave a stain on this haunting place today.

Our Highland tour of lochs and glens continues to Fort William and we’re now on the romantic ‘Road to the Isles’ to Mallaig. We’ll stop to breath in the spectacular scenery at Glenfinnan, at the head of Loch Shiel, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745 in an ill-fated attempt to reinstate the exiled Stuarts onto the throne of Great Britain and Ireland. The Glenfinnan Monument, erected in 1815 to honour the fallen Jacobites, stands tall and proud in one of Scotland’s most breath-taking spots. In the distance, the 21 arches of the majestic Glenfinnan Viaduct curve through the glen in a scene immortalised as the route to Harry Potter’s Hogwarts.

Your knowledgeable driver-guide will show you the best spots to recreate the magic with your own camera.

Your small group tour will pass Loch Eilt, a popular Harry Potter filming location where Hagrid was seen sadly skimming stones across the water. Its little island, Eilean na Moine, passes for Dumbledore’s final resting place. Look out for the Loch Eilt pines, a fine example of the ancient Caledonian pine forest.

As your Discover Scotland Tour rolls on to Mallaig, we kick off our shoes at the Silver Sands of Morar, a string of white, sandy beaches. Their turquoise waters stretch out to the Small Isles of Rum, Eigg, Muck and Canna and even the Isle of Skye.

You’ll have around an hour to explore the attractions, shops and restaurants of the ferry and fishing port of Mallaig. Why not savour some local fish and chips? Then you can hop on the Jacobite Steam Train (tickets organised by your driver-guide) to enjoy one of the world’s most spectacular train journeys over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, or the ‘Harry Potter bridge’, back to Fort William. Your tour leader will gather your small group for our return coach journey to Glasgow.

As we continue our adventure, we have another chance to be immersed in the tumbling mountains, stretching glens and sparkling lochs of Glencoe and Rannoch Moor. Our final stop is at a traditional Scottish pub and historic resting point for weary travellers of old. The 314-year-old Drovers Inn has welcomed the heroes and villains of Scotland’s colourful history through its creaking doors over the centuries. Enjoy an evening refreshment in front of a roaring log fire once enjoyed by infamous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor. The staff might even share legends about the ghosts and ghouls known to haunt the place before our day trip returns to Glasgow.
