Johnstone is one of the larger towns in Renfrewshire, with its own storied history. Johnstone’s main industry was thread and cotton, with mills powered by the Black Cart Water which runs to the north of Johnstone, and a six storey cotton mill, one of the largest in Scotland, was built in 1782. You can explore the history of the town in the excellent Johnstone History Museum located within Morrison’s supermarket. While you’re there, enjoy a nice meal from one of the local restaurants — Papamacs Gourmet Kitchen, Trattoria Roma or Callum’s Bar and Restaurant.
