Create Your Own Original Gin in Scotland

Bubbling pots and jars of botanicals in a cellar. Intrigued?
Gin tasting at 56 North bar in Edinburgh

Picture a bubbling pot, assorted jars of botanicals and a cellar beneath the streets of Edinburgh. Sounds a little Hogwarts, doesn’t it? But what it actually is, is making gin at the renowned Edinburgh Gin Distillery, one of many places in Scotland where you have the chance to make a bottle of your own one-off custom gin.

The doors of gin-makers are open for you to come and experience the behind-the-scenes processes. Not only will you learn all about gin – its murky but engaging history, a range of styles and processes of making and distilling from grain to glass, and most importantly all about the botanicals - but you can also create your own recipe and distil your own bottle of gin to take home. Many distilleries will even hold your recipe so that you can re-order your bespoke gin whenever you are running low.

During a tutored gin tasting session at a distillery, expect to delight the senses, from the first glimpse of the copper stills to the aromas and fruits peels, spices and botanicals to the refreshing juniper bite on your palate. This hands-on activity is the ultimate experience for a true gin lover.
