The Sounds of the City

What does a city sound like?

That is the question that composer Tod Machover is looking to answer at the 2013 Edinburgh International Festival.

Using Edinburgh as a ‘sonic backdrop’, he will be custom creating a symphonic work using sounds crowdsourced from around the city. The symphony will be premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival 2013. The work, named Festival City, will look to take recordings of the sounds of Edinburgh inside and outside of the Festival period.

Tod is asking people to submit their sounds and memories of Edinburgh to help him craft his composition- so anyone who has ever been to and loved Edinburgh, anyone who is performing at the Festivals, or anyone who lives in Scotland’s capital is invited to record or share their sounds via email, Soundcloud or Facebook.

The custom created sonic portrait will be performed at the Edinburgh International Festival on the 27th August 2013.
