The idyllically set Inchmahome Island is the largest of three islands in the Lake of Menteith in the heart of Trossachs.

    Visitors to the island immediately become aware of the remarkable sense of tranquillity and other-worldliness that pervades the island. The northern side of the island is occupied by the enchanting ruins of Inchmahome Priory that the island is best known for. Established in 1238 by a small community of Augustinian canons, the secluded location offered the brethren isolation from the secular world, and harmony in which to carry out the worship of God. The rest of the island is heavily wooded and a walk around the circular path that follows the shore gives visitors a good chance of spotting some truly magnificent trees with rare species including.
