The event provides a fun opportunity for visitors and locals to come together and dance to lively Scottish country dances with simple steps.
Popular ceilidh dances include the Flying Scotsman, Gay Gordons, Strip the Willow and the Dashing White Sergeant. Take your partner by the hand and spin across the floor to the instantly memorable tunes. Music is provided by a traditional ceilidh band with instruments including fiddles, accordions and drums. Usually a member of the band will talk everybody through the steps first, allowing beginners to join in the fun.
There are several venues around the country which regularly host ceilidhs. During the summer months, you can often take part in these ceilidh dances to mark the end of Highland games.
Sit back at a ceilidh and watch the vibrant and fun displays before taking to the floor yourself to enjoy this fun and lively activity.
