Located at the heart of Scotland, Perthshire enjoy excellent transport links with the rest of the UK and Europe. Whether taking the train, flying, catching a ferry or driving, reaching the region is both straightforward and stress-free.

By land

By car

If travelling to the region by ferry, it is possible to take your car with you. However there are plenty of car hire operators in Perthshire where you can rent a vehicle once you arrive. Car hire companies operating in Perth include Grassicks of Perth and Turner Hire Drive. Arnold Clark and Enterprise Rent-A-Car also have branches in Perth.

While the M90 from Edinburgh and the M80, M9 and A9 from Glasgow and Stirling offer the quickest routes into the region, the Perthshire Tourist Route provides a scenic alternative to travelling by motorway and dual carriageway.

This charming drive follows the line taken by General Wade's 18th century military road, bypassing the A9 via Crieff and Aberfeldy.

By bike

Perthshire’s quiet country roads make cycling one of the best ways to explore the region and soak up its stunning scenery. You can either bring your own bike or hire one once you arrive here.

By bus

Leave the car behind and make use of the region’s extensive networks of regular bus routes. Many bus stations are located in Perth city centre which offer services to most Perthshire towns and villages while Scottish Citylink and National Express operate routes that connect the region to every city and major town in Britain.

School buses and post buses will sometimes take passenger to more remote areas of the region.

By train

Perthshire has several railway stations which provide rail links to Edinburgh and Glasgow and neighbouring towns. There are some direct services from London available which take less than six-and-a-half hours journey time. A sleeper service direct from London is also available. Getting to and from the stations is easy with many taxi ranks and bus stations located nearby.

By air

Glasgow Airport is located just a 73 minute drive from Perthshire while Edinburgh and Dundee Airports are less than 30 minutes away. Travel time to Perthshire from Aberdeen Airport is around one-and-a-half hours. These airports operate schedule flights to and from most major UK airports and international cities including Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Chicago, New York and others.
