Dunoon

Overview

Dunoon is the main resort on the beautiful Cowal Peninsula and the maritime gateway to the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park.

Built around the historic Castle Mound and famous for its large Victorian pier, Dunoon is one of the Firth of Clyde's foremost resorts. The town has an attractive promenade, and boasts a wide range of hotels, self-catering accommodation, shops and restaurants.

Dunoon offers an excellent variety of sporting activities including golf, tennis, fishing, walking, hill-walking, cycling, adventure cruising, and sailing. The town's swimming pool and leisure centre has recently been refurbished to a high standard and is a popular attraction for locals and visitors alike. During the summer months, numerous pleasure cruises sail to destinations ranging from Loch Goil to Arran and are the ideal way to sit back and enjoy the coastal scenery. For those using Dunoon as a base to explore the peninsula, a visit to the wonderful Younger Botanic Gardens at Benmore near Loch Eck is highly recommended.

Each August, the town plays host to the Cowal Highland Gathering, the world's largest and most spectacular Highland Games while each October, it is home base for the perennially popular Cowalfest Walking Festival.
