Steeped in history and a haven for wildlife, the Inchcailloch Island is part of the Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve.

Situated a very short ferry ride from Balmaha, this magical island is the largest (52 hectares) of the Loch Lomond National Nature Reserve. It lies in the south east corner of Loch Lomond and is cloaked by oak woodland which is particularly important because of its rich flora and distinctive communities of mosses, lichens and birds.

If you’re wondering what the best time to visit the island is then the answer is all year round weather permitting. In the spring the island is carpeted in bluebells, in summer it flourishes and becomes a rich habitat for birds, flowers and other plant life while from the autumn through to spring the island sees migrating wildfowl setting up home around the island.

Boats to the island can be hired in Balmaha or visitors can be ferried there and back from Balmaha Boat Yard.
