Newcastleton, known locally as ‘Copshaw Holm’, is Scotland’s first bicycle friendly village. You can learn about local history at the fantastic Heritage Centre. There are photos and an exhibition portraying the history and culture of Liddesdale and its people.
The local area provides a wide range of recreational activities including walking cycling, golf, fishing and horse riding. The 7stanes at Newcastleton provides a fantastic base for those interested in waling and mountain biking.
The remains of the magnificent Hermitage Castle lie on moorland north of Newcastleton. Most of the castle dates from the 13th century, although the keep and corner towers visible today date mainly from the 14th century.
The village also hosts the Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival, the Copshaw Common Riding and the famous Holm Show.
