Welcome to the Argyll Hotel on Iona. We are a family run business with friendly staff and a great restaurant. Our aim is for you to feel at home as soon as you arrive so that you can begin your relaxing break. The oldest part of the hotel is 160 years old and it retains a lot of its original character. The North and South lounges both face the sea and are dog friendly, you can read a paper after breakfast in front of a real fire, or play chess and have a drink in the evening. All our lounges have internet and you can find our only TV in the West Lounge. Do read our reviews on TripAdvisor.
The main dining room gives access to the sun lounge which looks directly onto the sea and is a favourite haunt for those who want to hide out for a few hours, knitting, reading and a chance for a coffee and a brownie or a scone in the afternoon. In the evening there are some dining tables where you can watch the changing colours of the sea with a candlelit supper.
We have 17 bedrooms should you want to stay for a break. There is no single supplement for accomodation. Well behaved dogs and children are most welcome. Because of the age of the building our rooms are all individual and are mostly described as 'cosy', which means on the smaller size. All but one are en-suite and if you have special requirements please let us know on booking.
We are able to host small intimate weddings, whether for exclusive use for the weekend, or just the wedding breakfast. We can work with you to create all aspects of your special day. Please ring to find out more details of this service. We also welcome a variety of groups for writing retreats, photography, spiritual pilgrimages and families wanting to gather to celebrate important anniversaries.
Being away from it all is the feeling of the Island and each kind of weather brings its own beauty. For us it is never the wrong weather, just the wrong clothes so come prepared! Lots to explore outside or plenty of places to cosy up and relax.
Opening: We are currently closed. We re-open 29th March- 25th October 2021. We are taking bookings both online and monitoring the office so please leave a message and we will get back to you very quickly. All room rates are B & B.
Travel/ Transport: To reach us by road you can take the ferry from Oban to Craignure or Lochaline to Fishnish and then drive your car to Fionnphort where there is a free car park on the left at the top of the village. The ferry crossing is then about 7 minutes but visitors cars are not permitted on the island. We recommend that you take your car and unload at the bottom of the hill and then drive up and park the car in the free carpark in Fionnphort.
Trains and buses come direct to Oban from Glasgow. We recommend that you work backwards from arrival in Iona. From Oban to Iona it will take about 3 hours. The last ferry to connect with a bus to Iona is the 3.55pm from Oban.
Thank you in advance for your support as we work together in these challenging times to keep each other safe!
