Groom's Cottage is a self-catering cottage in the Scottish Borders. This charming vintage-inspired holiday rental is set in the Georgian stables at Wedderburn Castle and offers traditional style with modern comforts.
Downstairs there is a sitting/kitchen/dining area with open fireplace, flat-screen television, DVD player and a pine dining table. The stunning tiles on the floor were salvaged from the old dairy at nearby Paxton House and the space is full of character. Upstairs there is a comfortable double bedroom with adjoining bathroom with a romantic roll-top bath. The cosy cottage has 24-hour oil central heating and hot water.
The cottage has a garden outside as well as parking. It is surrounded by the grounds of Wedderburn Castle and you are welcome to walk around the glorious parkland and woodland on the estate. Grooms Cottage is set a mile from the pretty village of Duns which has some excellent shops and cafes and a small supermarket.
Groom's Cottage is a great base to explore the Scottish Borders and North Northumberland. To the East there are dramatic coastal walks at Coldingham and St Abbs as well as beaches and soem great diving. To the West there are country houses, ruined abbeys and hills. To the North you can find Edinburgh (just an hour's drive away) and East Lothian, while to the South you can visit Berwick-upon-Tweed, Holy Island, Alnwick Castle and the sights of Northumberland.
There are a large number of walks close to the cottage and it is also well located for Borders cycle routes. There is a golf course within two miles and lots of others within an easy drive. There is also a golf driving range within walking distance. Other sporting activities including trail and beach riding, hot-air ballooning, fishing and canoeing on the rivers Tweed and the Whiteadder and off-road driving are also available close to Wedderburn.
