The Broch of Gurness with it's village gives a great insight into how these people lived 2,000 years ago. The Viking started to come into Okrney and ruled the islands for hundreds of years coming under Norse rule with the Earls claiming land. The jewel of our crown of course St.Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall.
Find out about Scapa Flow with both World Wars using the harbour by the British Navy. The sinking of the German High Seas Fleet and sinking of HMS Royal Oak resulting in the building of the famous Churchill Barriers and Italian Chapel. This year commemorates the Battle of Jutland with a variety of gatherings happening all over the islands.
Food and drink is some of the best you will taste in the world with local beef and seafood served to perfection at the many restaurants. Not forgetting our Ale brewed at the Orkney and Swanney Breweries and Whisky distilled at Highland Park and Scapa disitlleries.
Nature is in abundance in Orkney with the most picturesque walks you can imagine. Puffins are the most popular request amongst visitors and can be found easily when they are here.
