Discover some of the awe inspiring “hidden gems” included in this the fascinating itinerary such as Dunrobin Castle gardens, created to deliver a unique experience for those visiting this wonderful part of the world.
Castles and Cathedrals…After leaving Inverness, we make our way towards Dunrobin Castle, the seat of the powerful Sutherland family and the 1st Duke of Sutherland George Leveson-Gower. Dating from the 13th century, Dunrobin is one of the oldest inhabited residences in the northern Highlands and Scotland, although much of the Castle now dates from the 19th century, built in the Scottish Baronial style. With its slender turrets, whitewashed walls and view the stunning Dunrobin Castle gardens, it is truly reminiscent of something from a fairy tale. En route, we stop to explore one of Scotland's most unique and enigmatic ancient monuments - the ruins of an Iron Age round tower, Carn Liath Broch.
Travelling towards our next location, we venture "off the beaten track" to take in some spectacular views at Loch Fleet, where there is a chance you may catch a glimpse of some of the wildlife that inhabit there, including seals, otters, and maybe even an osprey!
Next is a lunch time visit to the stunningly beautiful and historic hamlet of Dornoch, where there are some wonderfully unique shops to explore, and cafes galore to suit every taste - including a high quality chocolatier! After lunch, visit the magnificent Dornoch Cathedral, founded in the 13th century, which also boasts connections with the Hollywood elite (ask your guide for the full scoop)!
To Glenmorangie Distillery for a dram or two...After lunch, we're off for a whisky tasting at the world renowned Glenmorangie Distillery. Nestled on the banks of the Dornoch Firth, this distillery has been producing it's "wonderfully complex and exceptionally smooth" single malt since 1843. Taste this award winning "dram" so meticulously produced and matured to preserve its unique character, in the tallest copper stills in use in Scotland.
Hidden Gems…This is a truly fantastic, original tour, providing the opportunity to explore little known ancient places immersed in history and legend throughout the northern Highlands. The sandstone of the East Highlands creates fertile, lush rolling hills and sandy yellow beaches, all a recipe for stunning scenery and beautiful landscapes. Why not take a chance and go off the beaten track…you will not be disappointed!

Happy Tours is an Inverness based company, and has been operating since 2007. Over the years, we have developed the business to include Highland day tours and private tours around the beautiful Highlands of Scotland, and the Isle of Skye. We like to keep our tours small and personal, which allows us to spend more time at the fantastic local attractions and offers us an element of flexibility; this is why we prefer to use 8-seater vehicles.
