The highlight, of course, is a visit to the world famous Loch Ness; a place full of mystery, where you may just catch a glimpse of one of Scotland's most famous residents – Nessie, the Loch Ness Monster! Marvel at the views of the once mighty medieval stronghold,Urquhart Castle, a testament to the power of Clan Chiefs and Scottish Kings, that now stands as a majestic ruin on the banks of the Loch.
A taste of the Highlands...Travel through the Black Isle and take in the views of the rolling green hills and rich arable land filled with fields of barley so indicative of the east of Scotland, before sampling of some fine single malt whisky at Glen Ord Distillery, where the locally grown barley is used to produce the uisge beatha (meaning “water of life” in the Gaelic - whisky). We'll visit burgh of Beauly, from the French "beau leau", meaning "beautiful place", and the name is not wrong! Enjoy a stroll through the stunning ancient ruins of Beauly Priory, or visit some of the wonderful local cafes (including an award winning deli) and shops that this mediaeval burgh has to offer. Who knows, perhaps there may be a Highland Cow or two to stop and say hello to?
Live the history...Visit the emotive and compelling Culloden Battlefield, and hear the chilling story of the conclusion of the Jacobite cause on the site where the last pitched battle fought on the British mainland took place. Afterwards we take you even further back in time into prehistory and explore the ancient and atmospheric monuments at Clava Cairns.
