Itinerary
Day 1: Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye: Loch Lomond · Rannoch Moor · Glencoe · Fort William · Skye Bridge
Head west from Edinburgh, collecting any Glasgow travellers, and into Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. Rannoch Moor and Glencoe follow, with the story of the Glencoe Massacre and a stop at the Glencoe Visitor Centre's replica turf house.
Continue past Fort William beneath Ben Nevis, cross the Skye Bridge and settle into Portree for your first night on the island.
Day 2: A full day on the Isle of Skye: Dunvegan Castle · Old Man of Storr · Kilt Rock · Duntulm · Fairy Glen
Dunvegan Castle, home of Clan MacLeod, opens the day. Then the island's most distinctive scenery: the Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, the windswept ruins of Duntulm Castle and the strange green hills of the Fairy Glen, before a second evening in Portree.
Dunvegan Castle normally opens April to October; castle entry is paid separately. Weather and road conditions can alter the exact route.
Day 3: Skye to Edinburgh via Loch Ness: Eilean Donan · Fort Augustus · Loch Ness · Creag Meagaidh · Pitlochry
Cross back over the Skye Bridge to Eilean Donan Castle, then inland to Fort Augustus on Loch Ness, where an optional cruise is available. A short walk at Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve follows, then the Victorian town of Pitlochry and the road home.
Loch Ness cruise and castle entries aren't included. Eilean Donan closes on selected dates and for private events.
The itinerary is a guide and can change with weather, road conditions, seasonal closures or attraction availability.
