Private Tours of Scotland

Private tours of Scotland with owner-guide Graeme. Your group only, flexible itinerary. Complimentary bagpiping & whisky tasting experiences.

Private Tours of Scotland, 5-Star Owner-Guided Adventures

Experience the most authentic Private Tours of Scotland with owner Graeme, your personal Scottish tour guide who designs, drives, and guides your entire journey in full Highland dress. I’m a native Scot born and bred in Scotland, and I personally handle every aspect of your exclusive Scottish adventure from your first enquiry to your final farewell.

This is Scotland through Scottish eyes. I reveal hidden Highland gems that tour buses cannot reach, historic castles where I bring centuries of history to life, and breathtaking scenic locations where you’ll experience traditional Scottish bagpipe music performed exclusively for your group. Travel in luxury and comfort while I share fascinating tales of Kings and Queens, Highland clans, intrigue, murder, and the folklore that makes Scotland unforgettable.

Your private Scotland tour is completely personalised. Start from Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews, or anywhere in Scotland, and finish wherever suits your onward journey. No rigid schedules. No strangers joining your group. Just you, your family and friends, Scotland’s spectacular landscapes, and a passionate Scotsman who lives to share his homeland’s stories.

Private Tours to Scotland’s Most Iconic Destinations

From visiting the Isle of Skye’s dramatic Cuillin mountains and the eerie glens of Glencoe to the mysterious depths of Loch Ness and the wild beauty of the Scottish Highlands, your private tour explores Scotland’s most iconic landscapes and hidden treasures.

Discover Orkney’s 5,000-year-old Neolithic villages, taste world-class whiskies in Speyside distilleries, walk the historic streets of Edinburgh and St Andrews, or explore the Inner Hebridean islands of Mull and Iona. Every journey is tailored to your interests, whether that’s ancestral clan heritage, Outlander filming locations, championship golf courses, or simply soaking in Scotland’s breathtaking scenery.

Custom, Bespoke and Tailor-Made Tours of Scotland

Design Your Perfect Journey

Every custom Scotland tour I guide is uniquely designed around your interests, pace, and travel style. Whether you arrive with a detailed itinerary we can enhance with local insights, or prefer we work together to create your bespoke tour from the beginning, your journey becomes a personalised Scottish adventure that reflects what matters most to you.

I’ve guided everyone from solo travellers exploring ancestral clan territories to families of eight discovering Scotland together, from photography enthusiasts chasing dramatic Highland scenery to whisky connoisseurs touring Speyside distilleries. Each group of travellers is different, and every journey reflects that.

Already Have Your Own Itinerary?

Many visitors arrive with specific plans: castles they’ve researched, distilleries they want to visit, or ancestral villages they’re keen to explore. Perfect! Share your itinerary with me, and I’ll enhance it with local insider knowledge and suggestions you might have missed.

Canadian visitors researching their Campbell clan heritage emailed me their detailed itinerary and asked whether there were any other Campbell visitor attractions they could visit. I suggested the Campbell mausoleum at Kilmun where the Campbell chiefs are buried, then we stopped at the Clachaig Inn in Glencoe with the brass plate reading “No Hawkers, No Campbells”, the historic animosity between Campbells and MacDonalds still remembered centuries after the 1692 massacre. Standing there, they understood their clan’s complex Highland history in a way no book could convey. These weren’t just tourist stops; they were personal connections to their ancestral past.

What I add to your plans:

  • Optimal visiting times to avoid crowds at popular attractions
  • Authentic lunch spots and restaurants locals actually use
  • Secret viewpoints for photography that aren’t in guidebooks
  • Realistic timing between locations based on actual Highland driving conditions
  • Weather backup plans and alternative routes

Starting From Scratch?

If you’re not sure where to begin, that’s equally exciting. Working directly with me, your custom itinerary develops through friendly consultation, where I learn what captures your imagination about Scotland.

A photography enthusiast from Canada once told me he wanted “dramatic landscapes and moody skies.” I designed a route incorporating the Snow Road through the Cairngorms (Britain’s highest public road at 2,199 feet), the eerie glens of Glencoe on an overcast morning, and sunset at Eilean Donan Castle. The changing light and weather created exactly the atmospheric shots he was after. He never even knew the Snow Road existed until our planning conversation.

How we design your tour:

Share your Scotland wishlist – What excites you? Castles, whisky, ancestry, Outlander, golf, hiking, culture?

Mention any considerations – Mobility needs, preferred pace, must-see locations

Indicate your budget – This helps me recommend suitable accommodation and experiences

I will assist you in designing a custom route – Tailored specifically to maximise your interests and available time

Interest categories I specialise in:

  • Ancestral heritage and Scottish clan history
  • Whisky distillery tours across Scotland’s regions
  • Outlander filming locations (including the hidden ones)
  • Photography tours capturing dramatic landscapes
  • Golf experiences on world-class Scottish courses
  • Wildlife and nature exploration
  • Historic castles, battlefields, and Jacobite history
  • Robert Burns heritage sites
  • Neolithic archaeology (especially Orkney)

Choose Your Departure Point and Duration

Flexible starting locations:

Custom tours depart from anywhere in Scotland: Edinburgh, Glasgow, St Andrews, Inverness, Oban, Fort William, Nairn, or your accommodation. I also collect from cruise terminals (Greenock, South Queensferry, Invergordon) and all major Scottish airports.

Tour duration options:

Single-day adventures (8 hours typically)

Weekend tours (2-3 days)

Extended explorations (4-7 days)

Grand Scotland tours (10-14 days for comprehensive coverage)

Start and finish flexibility:

Your tour doesn’t need to loop back to the starting point. Many travellers begin in Edinburgh and finish in Glasgow (or vice versa), or start in Glasgow and complete their journey in Inverness, maximising their Scotland experience without unnecessary backtracking.

Premium Bespoke Experiences Available

Beyond standard sightseeing, your bespoke Scotland tour can include exclusive experiences and access that elevate your journey into something truly exceptional.

Spectacular routes tour coaches cannot access:

The Snow Road (Cairnwell Pass) traverses 2,199 feet through 90 miles of dramatic Cairngorms landscapes. This challenging route includes steep climbs, blind summits, hairpin bends, and single-track sections through terrain that standard tour buses simply cannot navigate. The views are breathtaking, and you’ll likely have long stretches of this ancient drovers’ road completely to yourselves.

Private access and premium activities:

  • Private estate access and historic neo-Gothic houses
  • Birds of prey handling experiences with expert falconers
  • Archery instruction and clay pigeon shooting on Highland estates
  • Guided fly fishing in Scotland’s renowned salmon rivers
  • Exclusive whisky tastings
  • Private golf lessons on championship Scottish courses
  • Secluded Highland locations and enchanting forest walks chosen specifically for your group’s interests

A family from Edinburgh recently wanted something beyond typical tourist experiences. I arranged a private falconry session on a Highland estate where their children (ages 8 and 12) flew a Harris hawk and learned about Scotland’s birds of prey. The kids still talk about that experience months later, saying it was their favorite part of the entire tour.

These premium additions create truly personalised moments that reflect your vision of the perfect Scottish adventure.

Adapt Your Journey Along the Way

Unlike rigid tour packages, your custom Scotland experience remains flexible throughout your journey. Discovered a fascinating location? Let’s spend more time exploring. Is the weather perfect for Highland photography? I’ll adjust the schedule. Found a charming village or stumbled upon a local festival? We’ll stop and experience it.

One couple planning an Outlander-focused tour discovered they were just as fascinated by real Jacobite history as they were by the TV show. We adapted their remaining days to include Culloden Battlefield and Glenfinnan Monument, weaving the actual historical events into the Outlander filming locations. They appreciated the flexibility to follow their evolving interests rather than stick rigidly to the original plan.

This flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of truly bespoke tours. Your schedule serves you, not the other way around.
