Stones of the Ascent (half-day)
This super half-day walk takes you along part of the Rob Roy Way to an ancient stone circle and then on to a high moor offering great views of the area.
This super half-day walk starts and finishes at the Pitlochry iCentre in the main street of Pitlochry. The route takes in the "bouncy" suspension bridge to Port-na-Craig, part of the Rob Roy Way and Clachan an Diridh - the "stones of the ascent" - an ancient stone circle. The route then takes you out on to the moor, where the views down to Pitlochry and across to nearby hills and mountains are, on a good day, excellent. A good track takes you down to Fonab and then Port-na-Craig. From here, we can visit Pitlochry Dam and its famous fish ladder. There is a very good cafe overlooking the dam which is a good place to reward yourselves with a cup of coffee and a piece of lovely cake!
The walk is 12km in length, with 350m of ascent, and is classed as strenuous due to its length. It takes about 4 hours + stops.
The walk will be private and is available for a group of up to six people through our online booking system. If you have a larger group, please contact us to discuss.
You will need to bring with you a pair of good trekking shoes or boots, waterproofs, a small rucksack, some warm spare clothing, hand sanitiser, a face mask and something to eat and drink. Children over the age of 12 are welcome on this walk but they must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Sorry, but no dogs.
