Campbeltown is situated 3 miles to the west of the airport and can be easily accessed with a taxi or hire car.
The airport runway, at 3,049 m, is the longest in Europe and RAF Machrihanish hosted UK military and NATO base operations here until 1997.
Attractions in Campbeltown include the famous Springbank Distillery, the heritage centre which shows the history of the town, and Davaar Island which boasts the famous cave painting of the crucifixion of Christ.
Machrihanish Golf Club is situated close to the airport and is a championship course which boasts being voted the best first hole in the world. It comes highly recommended from all golfers who have played there. There are two other courses in the area at Southend and Carradale.
